5 Things We Check During a Window Mesh Site Visit
5 Things We Check During a Window Mesh Site Visit
Buying window mesh isn’t simply about choosing a colour or mesh type.
Every home has different window configurations, frames, handles, grilles and usage needs. Before recommending a solution, our team looks at the actual opening and how you use it.
Based on what we’ve seen across hundreds of Singapore homes, here are 5 things we check during a typical window mesh site visit.
1. Window Configuration
First, we look at what type of window you have.
Is it a casement window? Sliding window? A combination of different panels?
This matters because the way your window opens and closes affects where the mesh can be installed and how it should operate.
For example, casement windows may have protruding handles that require additional consideration when positioning the mesh.
We don’t simply assume that one configuration will work for every window.
2. Available Frame Depth
Next, we look at the available space around the window frame.
Retractable mesh comes with its own casing and components, so there needs to be sufficient space for the system to be installed properly.
This is particularly important when the window already has:
- Existing grilles
- Thick frames
- Protruding handles
- Multiple window tracks
- Other fixtures around the opening
A few centimetres can make a difference when it comes to installation.
3. Existing Window Grilles
Many Singapore homes already have window grilles, particularly HDB homes.
We check how the existing grille is positioned and whether the retractable mesh can be installed alongside it.
In some situations, mesh can be installed over or alongside existing grilles. In others, the grille design or protrusion may affect the available space and installation method.
And this is where it’s important to understand that mesh and grilles serve different purposes.
Mesh is primarily for insect or pet protection. It should not automatically be treated as a replacement for a safety grille.
4. Window Handles & Other Protrusions
Window handles are easy to overlook until you try to install something around them.
A protruding casement handle, lock or other fixture can affect how the mesh sits and operates.
During our site visit, we check these details so that we can determine the appropriate configuration rather than discovering an obstruction only after installation begins.
This is also why we prefer measuring the actual window rather than relying solely on measurements provided over WhatsApp.
5. What Are You Actually Trying to Protect Against?
This is perhaps the most important question:
What do you need the mesh for?
A homeowner concerned mainly about mosquitoes and insects may require a different solution from a homeowner with a cat or dog.
For example:
π¦ Insect prevention β Retractable Insect Mesh
π±πΆ Pet protection β Retractable Pet-Friendly Mesh
π€οΈ Pet protection + privacy/light control β 2-in-1 Meshblind
Understanding how you use the space helps us recommend the appropriate product instead of simply selling you the most expensive option.
Why Do We Do a Site Visit?
Because window mesh isn’t a one-size-fits-all product.
Two apartments can have windows that look almost identical in photos but require completely different installation considerations once we see the actual frames, handles and surrounding structures.
A site visit allows us to:
Measure accurately
Check installation feasibility
Identify potential obstructions
Understand your needs
Recommend the appropriate mesh
Consultation + Hands-on Demo
We’d rather tell you that upfront than install something that isn’t appropriate for your home.
